How to Find the IFSC Code of Your Bank Branch

Last updated: 25 September 2026

You need the IFSC code of a branch whenever you add a beneficiary for NEFT, RTGS or IMPS. If you don't have it to hand, here are six reliable ways to find it, starting with the quickest.

1. Use the Find IFSC Code tool on this site

Open Find IFSC Code and choose the bank, then the state, city, district and branch, one after another. As soon as you pick the branch, its IFSC code, address and other details are shown. If you already have a code and want to be sure it is right, use Verify IFSC Code instead. You can also browse every bank from the All Banks page.

2. Look at your cheque book

Most banks print the branch's IFSC code on every cheque leaf, usually near the branch name and address at the top. This is one of the most dependable sources because it belongs to your own branch.

3. Check your passbook

The first page of a bank passbook normally carries your account number, branch details and IFSC code. If you have an older passbook, check the code against a current source, as branch codes can change.

4. Use your bank's mobile app or net banking

Log in and open the account details or account summary. Most banks show the IFSC code and branch address there. Some also let you share these details with one tap, which is handy when you want someone to pay you.

5. Check your account statement or welcome kit

Printed and PDF account statements usually list the branch and its IFSC code in the header. The welcome letter or kit you received when you opened the account often does too.

6. Use the bank's website or call the branch

Bank websites have a branch locator that shows the IFSC code for each branch. If you are unsure, you can also call the bank's customer care number, or visit the branch.

Tips before you use the code

  • Get the right branch. Banks have many branches in the same city with similar names, so match the branch address, not just the name.
  • Watch the fifth character. It is the digit zero, never the letter O. Read what an IFSC code is for how the code is built.
  • Beware of old codes. After mergers and renames a branch's code may change. If you copied it a long time ago, verify it again.
  • Copy carefully. Type or paste in capital letters with no spaces.
  • Send a small test amount first if you are paying a new beneficiary a large sum.

Common questions

Do all branches of a bank have the same IFSC code?

No. The first four letters are the same for the whole bank, but the last six characters are different for each branch, so every branch has its own code.

Can I find an IFSC code from an account number?

No. An account number does not reveal the branch or bank on its own. You need the bank and branch name, or a document that shows the code.

Do I need an IFSC code for UPI?

Not when you pay to a UPI ID or a mobile number. You need it only when you pay to a bank account using its account number.

Is there one IFSC code per bank?

No, that is a common misunderstanding. Each branch has its own code, so always use the code of the branch where the recipient's account is held.

What if you cannot find the branch?

Branches sometimes close or move, and our data may not list every branch. If you can't find yours, ask your bank for the current IFSC code in writing, or through your net banking. You can also tell us so that we can look into the record.
